Windows XP Global Roaming Internet Access Setup Instructions

Configuring your Global Internet Access connection is easy and takes less than 5 minutes. You will need one of our global Internet access numbers to connect to the Internet. If you don’t already know the number, click the Access Numbers tab on our website to search by area code or by state.

  • Click the Start button in your system tray (lower left corner of your monitor).
  • From the menu, select Control Panels.
  • If you see a folder with a bunch of icons, double-click the one called Network Connections. If you see a window titled "Pick a Task ...," click the link for Network Connections under the second title "Or pick a Control Panel icon."
  • You will see the Network Connections window.
  • Click the "Create a new connection" link (upper left corner).
  • When you see the "Welcome to the Network Connection Wizard" screen, click Next.
  • Select Connect to the Internet and click Next.
  • Select the option to set up your Internet connection manually (the second one) and click Next.
  • Select Connect using a dial-up modem (the first one) and click Next.
  • Type iRove as the name of your ISP and click Next.
  • Enter your local access number (see note below) and click Next.
  • For Connection Availability, choose "your use" or "anyone's use," according to your personal preference.
  • Enter your username along with the following prefix: bdu/username (see notes below)
  • On the same page, enter your password and then confirm the password.
  • Turn on or off the other options according to your personal preference. We recommend that you leave the firewall on.
  • Select "Add a shortcut to this location to my desktop" and click Finish.

Entering Access Numbers: Enter the access number the same way you would enter it if you were dialing the number on a telephone. If you don't need to dial the area code, do not enter the area code.

Entering Your Username: When you manually configure your connection, you must include the bdu/ prefix with your username. In the Username field, enter your username in the following format: bdu/username

Connecting and Disconnecting

Double-click the shortcut on your desktop and then click Connect. When connected, you will see a message that says you are now connected with iRove–nothing else will happen automatically. To go to a Web site, open Internet Explorer from your Programs menu.

To disconnect from the Internet, look for the small icon next to the clock in the lower right corner of your monitor (it looks like two computers connected together). Double-click this icon and you will see a message that tells you how long you've been connected. Click Disconnect to end your session.
