Macintosh OS X Global Roaming Internet Access Setup Instructions

Configuring your Global Internet Access connection is easy and takes less than 5 minutes. You will need one of our global Internet access numbers to connect to the Internet. If you don’t already know the number, click the Access Numbers tab on our website to search by area code or by state.

  • Open the System Preferences from your Dock or by clicking the Apple icon at the upper left corner of the screen and selecting System Preferences.
  • Double-click the Network icon.
  • In the Location pop-up list, click New Location and name the location iRove. Click OK.
  • In the Show pop-up list, select Internal Modem.
  • Click the TCP/IP tab, if not already selected.
  • You should leave the Domain Name Servers and Search Domains blank.
  • In the Configure pop-up list, choose Using PPP.
  • Click the PPP tab.
  • In Service Provider enter iRove.
  • In Telephone Number, enter your local access number (see note below).
  • In Account Name, enter your username along with the following prefix: bdu/username (see note below).
  • In Password, enter your password.
  • Click the Modem tab.
  • Make sure the correct modem is selected.
  • Make sure Enable error correction and compression in modem is NOT selected.
  • Turn Sound on or off to hear your modem dial.
  • Select Tone dialing.
  • Check Show modem status in menu bar.
  • Click the Apply Now button when finished.

Entering Access Numbers: Enter the access number the same way you would enter it if you were dialing the number on a telephone. If you don't need to dial the area code, do not enter the area code.

Entering Your Username: When you manually configure your connection, you must include the bdu/ prefix with your username. In the Username field, enter your username in the following format: bdu/username

Connecting and Disconnecting

Double-click the shortcut on your desktop and then click Connect. When connected, you will see a message that says you are now connected with iRove–nothing else will happen automatically. To go to a Web site, open Internet Explorer from your Programs menu.

Option 1: At the menu bar, click the modem icon. In the menu that appears, click Connect. A password dialog appears if you did not save your password. Type your password and click OK.
Option 2: Open your Applications folder by double-clicking your hard drive icon and then clicking on Applications in the top menu bar. To connect to the Internet, double-click the Internet Connect application. Double-check the phone number, username, and enter your password if needed. Then click Connect to dial up to the Internet.
