Macintosh 8.x to 9.x Global Roaming Internet Access Setup Instructions

Configuring your Global Internet Access connection is easy and takes less than 5 minutes. You will need one of our global Internet access numbers to connect to the Internet. If you don’t already know the number, click the Access Numbers tab on our website to search by area code or by state.

  • From the Apple menu, select Control Panel and then TCP/IP.
  • From the Connect Via pop-out menu, select PPP.
  • From the Configure pop-out menu, select Using PPP Server.
  • Remove anything entered in the Name Server box. This box should be empty.
  • You do not need to enter anything in the Search Domain box. If something is entered, you can choose to remove it or leave it there.
  • Close the window and Save changes.
  • From the Apple menu, select Control Panel and then Modem.
  • From the Connect Via pop-out menu, select the port to which your modem is connected.
  • From the Modem pop-out menu, select your modem.
  • Close the window and Save changes.
  • From the Apple menu, select Control Panel and then Remote Access.
  • Enter your username along with the following prefix: bdu/username (see notes below).
  • On the same page enter your password.
  • Enter the access number (see note below).
  • Click the Options button and then click the Protocol tab.
  • From the Use Protocol pop-out window, select PPP.
  • Click OK to save changes and close Options window.

Entering Access Numbers: Enter the access number the same way you would enter it if you were dialing the number on a telephone. If you don't need to dial the area code, do not enter the area code.

Entering Your Username: When you manually configure your connection, you must include the bdu/ prefix with your username. In the Username field, enter your username in the following format: bdu/username
